During my travels, I recently had the chance to visit Flåm, a small village tucked away in the dramatic landscape of Norway’s fjords. The towering cliffs, tranquil waters, and shifting light made an unforgettable impression – one that I wanted to capture immediately in my sketchbook.
This piece, created with watercolour and pen wash, reflects that very first encounter. The raw edges of the mountains, the deep greens and purples of the rock faces, and the soft play of cloud and sky above the fjord reminded me how small we are compared to nature’s scale and beauty.
For me, sketching on location isn’t just about recording a view – it’s about capturing the feeling of being there. This scene in Flåm was alive with stillness, if such a thing exists, and I hope that comes through in this artwork.
I’m pleased to share that prints of this piece are now available. Each one is professionally produced through Printful, who handle printing and worldwide shipping so that you can enjoy a little piece of the fjords in your own home.
