Friday Morning Reflections

I’ve decided that each Friday morning will be our time together – a quiet pause at the end of the week where I catch up on loose ends and gently welcome the weekend in. Think of it as a weekly chat over a cup of coffee, where I share what’s been going on in the studio and perhaps a little of what’s to come.
This week I began a new charcoal drawing – not of the Briksdal Glacier near Olden itself, but of the landscape in the other direction. It’s a tricky piece, full of mountains and a winding river. To add a little drama, I’ve chosen to sketch a more striking sky than what was really there, because sometimes imagination brings a scene to life in a way reality doesn’t quite manage.
If I’m honest, the tiredness has caught up with me, and I’ve not been able to keep pace with the drawing as I had hoped. But that’s alright. These things can wait, and I’ll carry on with it next week when I feel fresher. Art isn’t a race – it unfolds when it’s ready.
Tomorrow (Saturday) I may take a break from the charcoal and do a quick pen and watercolour sketch instead. Perhaps something inspired by my travels, just a little study to loosen up and enjoy the flow of colour and line.
So, as the weekend arrives, I simply wish you a good one – whatever it may hold. Thank you for joining me this morning, and I look forward to welcoming you back next Friday.
Take care until then.
